Bogra, also known as Bogura, is a district in northern Bangladesh that is part of the Rajshahi Division. Bogra is an old town in the north of Bangladesh that serves as a gateway to the country. Bogra is also known as the North Bengal nerve center because it is a center of commerce and trade within the Rajshahi Division. Due to its easy access by road and railway, Bogra is a commercial center for the south of the country.
Bogra district was once part of the ancient Pundravardhana territory. Pundravardhana now known as Mahasthangarh, which was located just north of the city and was the capital of the Pundra dynasty. This Present area that belongs to Bogra district was first established in 1821 under British rule. This greater Bogra district was divided into two districts Bogra and Joypurhat In 1983. In the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 Bogra region was covered fiercely and was one of the main centres for resistance against the Pakistani army.
The town of Bogra lies on the bank of the Karatoya River. The soil around the Bogra region is very fertile and the grain production is very high in this area. The cultural environment of Bogura is very rich with Lalon, Sufi and Marathi. Also, all the religious people from different religions live peacefully in this city. Bogra is a busy town filled with crowds, rickshaws, different modes of transport and lots of energy. As a centre of the southern region of Bangladesh, this city is connected with all of the cities of the Rajshahi Division.
As Bogra is one of the oldest cities in Bengal region, it is mostly famous for its many ancient Buddhist constructions, Hindu temples and also ancient palaces of Muslim rulers. Mahasthangarh is the main attraction among those ancient places. There is also many other places you can visit in Bogra, main attraction among those are Gokul Medh, Poradaha Mela, Bihar Dhap, Parshuram Palace, Mankali Kund, Vasu Bihar, Jogir Bhaban, Bhimer Jangal, Rani Bhavani’s father’s house, Kherua Mosque etc. There are also many decent hotels for tourists, one of them is a four star hotel, its name is “Naz Garden”.
