Rajshahi
Rajshahi is a historical city located in the northern part of Bangladesh. This city has green trees shed like illusory heaven.
There is much disagreement about the nomenclature of the Rajshahi district. This city was one of the parts of the ancient Pundra Empire of Bengal. The capital during the time of King Vijay Sen of the famous Sen dynasty was located just 9 km from the present city of Rajshahi.
In medieval times, present-day Rajshahi was known as Rampur Boalia. According to multiple sources, a police station located in Rajshahi city is still named Boalia. In the fifteenth century, Bhaturia Dinajpur zamindar Raja Kansa or Ganesh was the ruler of the region. He was known as Raja Shah. It is believed that 'Raja' and 'Shah' have been named Rajshahi.
The life of the once beautiful Padma flowed under this city. To the south of this city, you can find the overwhelming vastness of the Padma river. The city is surrounded by famous Amrakanan on the three sides east-west-north. People here in Rajshahi mainly work in the agriculture sector. Hardworking farmers of this land made Rajshahi division a granary of the country.
Rajshahi is famous for manufacturing silk yarn and silk fabrics. In 1977, the Silk Board was established in Rajshahi. Rajshahi is called Reshmanagari because of silk. Other cottage industries include weaving, bamboo, cane, goldsmith, blacksmith, potter, woodwork, brocade, sewing, and beedi. This city is famous for mango, litchi, and sweets.
The city of Rajshahi has a significant number of educational institutions. Many of its well-educated scholars have spread beyond the border of the country and abroad. This city is also known as Shikshanagari for these famous educational institutions.
Rajshahi Boalia Club is one of the holders of the history-tradition of Rajshahi. Founded in 1884, this traditional club was reserved and restricted to the elite only. That club was the center of entertainment for the British rulers and the foreign banya class. This century-old organization has witnessed many historical events in the evolution of time. The club is full of memories of ups and downs, cruelty, and scandal.
