Khulna is a beautiful vibrant city of breath, Chui Jhal, the abundance of fish, and the magical form of the Rupsa-Bhairab River.
Historians said that the ancient town of Khulna was called Saptgaon. There are many differences of opinion about the origin of the name Khulna. However, one of the most popular theories is that a wealthy Saudagar of ancient Bengal built a temple named 'Khullaneshwari' on the bank of the Bhairab river in the name of his wife Khullana. This name Changes over time and bears the name Khulna.
According to many, the name Khulna is derived from the word Culnea, which was written in the record of the sailors of the ship 'Falmouth' in 1766. Also, many believe that Khulna comes from the word Jessore-Culna written in British period maps.
